Aflac!

Today in my Advertising 350 class, we were discussing advertising campaigns. For a lot of successful advertising campaigns, character representatives or a spokesperson has been used. Many people, when seeing these characters or spokesperson, they immediately know what company is being represented. This automatic recognition of characters proves that an advertising campaign has been successful. Some examples of companies that have used characters are Geico Car Insurance, Allstate Car Insurance, Progressive Insurance, and Aflac Insurance. Obviously, you can see a pattern within Insurance agencies in using a character or a spokesperson. There are other companies that use characters also but these specific Insurance companies are some of the most recognizable. Every time a Geico Insurance commercial comes on the TV, I look forward to seeing what they have come up with for the commercial. Commercials that use humor to appeal to their audience are the ones that catch my attention the most, if the humor is actually successful. One commercial that made me laugh out loud was, of course, a Geico one using the well-known Geico Gecko. Many people may pay attention the the dancers in the background of the commercial but my favorite part in the commercial is when the Gecko is dancing at the end. My dad actually pointed it out to me and now every time I see this commercial, I can't help but watch him and laugh out loud. Take a look at the commercial from Youtube and see if you find it has funny as I did. Characters and spokespersons can really help make a brand stand out, if good repetition of the character is used. If good repetition is used with a character, usually you will never forget the character, and therefore, never forget the brand.
